Simply rational
I don't get it! What's the advantage to overfilling a kettle? No advantage. A slower cup of tea. What also riles me is when people boil the kettle, leave the room, come back and flick the kettle back on. The water WILL still be hot after 5 minutes. I'm a kettle Nazi at home.
Culture change
I declined plastic bags four times today when I was buying mother's day presents. Each time I did the person at the till gave me a funny look, as if they'd never seen such a thing before. Part of people's reluctance to decline plastic bags is due to British politeness: id est, people don't like saying no.
