New kettle
When we replaced our old kettle we chose one that was energy efficient and had clear markings for number of cups onside. As we have recently been given an energy monitor by British Gas we are very aware of which household items use a lot of power. The kettle is very energy hungry so it makes sense to just boil what you need and no more.No to junk mail
The Post Office don't really like you doing this but if enough of us said no to the endless junk mail it would no longer be a viable means of communication for companies. contact the mailing preference website and tell them that you do not wish to receive unsolicited mail.Walking Dad
My Dad is active and in his mid seventies. We have always enjoyed walking although we don't go "off road" as much these days. It is a nice way to spend time together and gives us chance to talk as well as keeping us both fit and I feel closer to him.Recycling toys
My children are teenagers now but we have always recycled toys when we can. Their early stuff went to the playgroup I worked at, and later some went to school.Other items were given to charity shops or freiends with younger children. Some were car booted and selected new or nearly new items have been used to send in Xmas boxes or used in lucky dips for fundraising activities. Very few things actually went to landfill and as some of their toys were originally from jumble sales or car boots so
they had been previously recycled.
Helped school children knit
We were making a square for a large tapestry using different textures and textiles at the primary school where I work. Several of the children asked if they could knit, surprisingly about half were boys. Some just needed help casting on or undoing their mistakes. One boy went on to make a scarf.
