Blow the whistle on workplace bullies

This action has been done 1,388 times which means there have been roughly 11,104 more mornings this year people have felt able to come to work.

How we did the maths

Serious one, this one. 1 in 3 employees say they've been bullied at work. And surveys say people who do not openly express their anger if they are unfairly treated at work double their risk of a heart attack, and bullied staff are more likely than non-bullied staff to suffer clinical levels of depression and anxiety.

Not always easy
I did this in my workplace and only succeeded in making life difficult for myself, whilst things are getting better now there was almost a month where very few staff would talk to me it was horrible!! 14 June 2010, 13:06

Across the street there is a nice place with a bus-stop,trees and grass.Now, the other day I saw a digger coming and it pulled up all the grass!I have not been able to save that spot.....yet,but I have an idea to ask my headmaster if we could start a recycling programme at school. - "Bullying is discrimination. Bullying does not discriminate. We are all potential targets. Despite this there is no legislation which protects us against bullying in the UK today.
- 8 in 10 workers are affected by workplace bullying.
- 80% of managers know that bullying is occurring in their workplace. Few admitted being involved though.
- 49% of managers have suffered bullying themselves.
- 37% of managers say they have had no proper management training.
- Bullying affects 1 in 4 people in the workplace today.
- 19 million sick days are lost due to bullying per annum.
- Sickness absence is costing the UK £13 billion per annum.
- The sectors with the highest rates of bullying are education, public administration, health and social work and transport and communications, with between 12% and 14% incidence rates. Generally, the rate in the public sector is higher than in the private sector.
- The larger the organisation, the greater the prevalence of bullying: 4.5% of those working in very small organisations with less than five employees report experiencing bullying in the workplace; 7.1% of those in small organizations; 9.7% of those in medium-sized firms and 10.9% of respondents in large organisations.
