practise good manners.
This is so important.Thankfully I picked this up from my parents. At one stage when I was younger, upset by the bad behaviour I'd seen from so many young women, I stopped opening doors for them etc.,out of respect.Thankfully I woke up to the fact that you practise good manners regardless of the poor behaviour of others, and so once more began to practise good manners. When I was studying for my degree, all the cleaners, cooking ladies, caretaker, gardeners knew and really liked me, just as much as the heads of the various departments did (By my third year there were three heads of departments trying to get to know me) after my Degree I took a cleaning job for a short time at that same college and found out why they liked me so much. All of a sudden I was completely invisible to many new students. I was amazed to see how completely they ignored others around them, and how arrogant so many of them were.Just simply smiling at people as you go by can have such an incredible effect, making eye contact with people serving you etc., and the funny thing is your rewarded for doing this by the reaction of others around you.As a result whenever I've gone to cities like London complete strangers react in amazing ways, and all I was doing was smiling or laughing as they went by.

It actually went very well.... it was nice 2 listen 2 ppl & actually hear their stories abt what's going on in their house or abt their weekend.... try doing it more often. 28 March 2010, 20:37Just this one thanks...
The ladies that take the clothes after I try them on at a department store don't have the best manners. They try to make me feel guilty for not putting them back on the racks myself... but I still practice good manners. 28 January 2010, 12:48It's what everyone should imbibe and do always
Its's something i do all the time, i actually listen and respond say about 10-20 secs. 17 October 2009, 09:58opening my ears...
I work with over 100 people who I see on varied patterns depending on when our varied schedules collide.
It is so easy to walk past them every day and say "hiya, you alright?" or "How are you?" or "are you okay?" as part of the daily routine.
Today however with this site in mind, when I asked my colleagues if they were ok or how they were, I actually listened.
The amazing thing was that the colleagues I listened to and discussed things with (whether it be their problems or the weather or something work related they were stuck with) thanked me for listening - yet it was hardly a burden at all.
This has taught me a valuable lesson. It is good to listen. 09 September 2008, 17:15
