Boring but important. Write your will. Even if you're not about to croak. You can buy a Make A Will pack from a stationery shop for just 99p. Or you can draw up a will online. And then you can make sure your goodies don't go to the baddies.

The Power of Knowledge
Our financial firm had recently been bought out. A lot of my co-workers were / are losing their jobs. Being and Administrative Assistant, I feel for those other Admins who were / are being displaced. One in particualar, I have been "work friends" with for years. I hated to hear that she was losing her job. I had encouraged her to reapply through our "new firm" and she reassured me that she had, but didn't meet the qualifications because she didn't know Microsoft PowerPoint.
I, being dubbed the PowerPoint queen of the office, took a month and during all my breaks and cutting my lunch in half, I taught her PowerPoint. She did so well with her first presentation that her boss had her complete three others. She still will come to me from time to time for proofing, but she doesn't need me anymore. She did a fantastic job. She started out very timid about the application but I pumped her up with positive energy and told her that she needed the "I can do it!" attitude.
Last I have heard, she has two interviews with managers from the new firm. Was it the PowerPoint? Who knows. I believe it was a bit of the confidence that I showed that she had to do it, to do anything.
I really hope that she lands an awesome job! She has a bright personality and it would be a waste to lose. 05 August 2008, 23:23
