In our university flat we don't have a TV linked to 'real TV' but we did adopt an old VHS player TV and now go round charity shops gathering old videos and have video nights as a flat :) I'm not sure whether theres another action this might fit better, but it feels good anyway :) 25 April 2011, 11:03I TRIED IT

It seemed like it was going to be hard, but I think not bringing a TV to my dorm was a great decision this way its not just something I fall back on so I do other things 31 August 2010, 03:21Very Difficult....
It was very difficult to not do sumthng ur addicted to, but once u really TRY, it actually becomes POSSIBLE. and i actually got more sleep! 26 August 2010, 06:50Smell that fresh air
cancelled tv subscription!.getting out and practising a seemingly dying art called conversation.
Book Conversation (how talk can change your life) by theodore zeldin.
I like conversations with people of all ages. Yesterday i had a wonderful conversation with a 8 yr old... she actually asked me , about me! i would like to introduce this 8 yr old girl to some adults. 22 August 2010, 06:25
Watch with somebody
I don't have a TV in my own room. They're placed in dining room and kitchen where people can watch together. That will reduce time someone watch alone. To tell the truth, TV programs are not always interesting and useful. I think some of them should be banned or removed completely. They're terrible and waste of time really. 20 August 2010, 09:45watch tv less
i cant stop my self from watching tv and i will watch tv less 01 May 2010, 11:42Misinformation
TV misinforms you. Please dont' watch the news on TV, read newspapers of all the political colours and surf the web. The REAL INFORMATION is not on TV but in other media. Get your time and look for truthful information. 27 April 2010, 10:05less t.v

Done
I have been away from TV for almost four years, and saved lots of time to make my life better. 20 March 2010, 03:49I can't remember the last time...
...I actually managed an entire evening like I used to. It has been a long time. TV is a rare treat these days. 15 March 2010, 02:11Another good one
One of the rules of www.thehappinessprojectlondon.wordpress.com is to cut your TV viewing by half - so I love this sentiment. Just not very good at doing it when I'm knackered and get home.... Doing photo albums is a great idea, as is...er shaving something off. I like it though! 02 March 2010, 11:50T.V
I have cut dowm on my television hours =) 25 February 2010, 15:17i watched less tv
i was watching unnecessary tv and thought that i should give the house a good clean this made my mum proud of me too! 25 February 2010, 15:06NO WAY
im sorry but i love my tv and i couldn't live if i had to watch less OMG that would be torture!!!!! but good luck with the campaign :) 25 February 2010, 14:38TV vs Internet
I haven't got TV at home, but I have laptop and most of the time I search the internet. Now I decide to reduce internet time and spend my time on reading a book or learning to play a musical instrument. No TV
I haven't had a TV for the past 5ish years. 12 February 2010, 19:52Less TV
I'm watching less TV because I'm very tired of all the commercial interruptions. It's so distracting. 07 February 2010, 15:19night out
boycotted telly for a night with friends. Lovely stuff. 04 February 2010, 17:12Not that difficult
fill your everyday life and you don't have time for it. 1 action is 1 step to less TV 04 February 2010, 14:03TV IS DEFO NOT EVERYTHING!!!
the t.v is usually on everyday in my house, but today it was switched off for the whole day, we played games on the computer and watched movies on my laptop. THERE IS NO NEED 4 TV'S THEY ARE JUST A WASTE OF ENERGY, YOU CAN WATCH TV ON THE PC. 29 January 2010, 00:45More fun!
We played Magic the Gathering instead of watching a movie! 23 January 2010, 18:10Try watching less T.V.
I am watching less T.V every day so that I can save more Energy !Anisa Morina 22 January 2010, 14:43
We do not have cable.
My flatmate still watches shows on her laptop, and my boyfriend and I watch movies some nights, but I much prefer to spend time playing ukulele or sewing or baking. 21 January 2010, 23:57Easy to do when you don't have a TV
Well, we have a TV. But it is not connected to an aerial. And now we have BBC iPlayer, so we do watch a bit on that. But when you are consciously tracking down your favourite shows on the internet rather than just mindlessly 'watching whatever is on right now' you do watch a lot less. 15 January 2010, 21:28OH NO
why should we watch less tv 11 January 2010, 20:50I ditched the TV altogether
Around 4 years ago my television died. I never replaced it and rarely miss it. Most of what is on tv is rubbish anyway :-) 05 January 2010, 23:23Watch less TV!
I decided that every Sunday night I'm going to log on and research ways to help the planet, instead of watching boring old repeats, or worse, reality TV! It sets me up for the week, and I feel great knowing I've done something really productive.I've found loads of great websites, www.ted.com, www.superforest.org are a couple of really good ones. 05 January 2010, 10:19
nice app!
I must admit I was a real tvholic back in the days. that's why i hate it that much now. it is absolutely useless. Okay, I learned some interesting stuff when i was younger (helped me learning English and I also learned some interesting stuff about animals on Animal Planet), but now as I dont have Animal Planet on the tv, it is absolutely useless. I switch it on from time to time cos of lack of sth to do, but in a good half an hour I feel disgusted with the stupid shows that people do recently. It is really disturbing and demotivating to see how society degrades. 03 January 2010, 18:21tv?
I don't even own a TV too..watching tv doesn't make you happy or satisfied at all, but it's a good way to manipulate the society 03 January 2010, 04:29Have done for the last 5 years...
Don't even own a TV! 22 December 2009, 19:43what tv
one reality and talent show too many and we got rid. best decision we ever made. 19 December 2009, 19:57tv fuzz
currently no aerial for our tv so it looks a bit like the picture below. Means for more reading and cooking...alternative
I watch shows on the computer instead. It's what cool kids do B-) 26 November 2009, 13:40.......
omg only 2 hours i lasted without watching tv!17 November 2009, 20:16
????
i only lasted 3 hours without watching tv 17 November 2009, 14:24tv
i havent watched tv yet 02 November 2009, 17:19no tv in my life !!
Me and my house mate decided not to have TV in our rooms because we spend most of our time at work so we never really have time to watch TV. And now we can spend our leisure in home by reading books and cooking which are way much better than sitting in front of TV screen. 17 October 2009, 05:37MUST STOP ARggghh!!!!!!
Ok so ive been trying this for a while. I came to realise I was watching pointless shows instead of revising. so I GOT RID OF THE TV in my bedroom. which was fine. But now I spend 10 hours a day in the house I seam to find myself thinking about TV even when im not watching it. 16 October 2009, 17:01
I never have the time!
I hardly have the time, and when I do, I usually turn it off after flicking through because there's nothing on! I prefer reading books or drawing or I stay up all night talking to people about the randomest things. (:04 October 2009, 11:56
Do Something Different- Anything!
Read a book instead! I've got 6 lined up already for the summer:-"Wuthering Heights" - Emily Bronte
-"The Great Gatsby" - F. Scott Fitzgerald
- "On the Road" - Jack Kerouac
-"Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" -Hunter S. Thompson
-"The Big Sleep" - Raymond Chandler
-"A Kestrel for a Knave" - Barry Hines 09 July 2009, 20:06
Watch less TV
I have been way too busy for any TV at the moment.xoxo 01 July 2009, 21:40
Try watching less TV
In the U.K. we use up so much electricity and watch so much TV.I heard once there was this kid and he was staring at the TV for hours and he got stuck to the sofa. Also when you watch huge amounts of TV you almost forget everything you've done in the past. So that's my message try watching less TV! 09 April 2009, 10:23
Turn it off!
The trouble with the 'moderation' argument is that lots of very, very clever people are paid lots and lots of money by TV companies to make sure you DON'T watch in moderation!
With commercial TV stations, you are a 'product', delivered by TV companies to thier advertisers - it doesn't exist for you, it exists for them!
I haven't had a TV for years, it's truly changed my life, I urge you take the plunge - you'll be amazed at what happens! 20 March 2009, 03:45
Watching Tv Less
I love tv am addicted! So i cant basically stop it! HAHAHA XD LOL 28 January 2009, 04:57TV?!?
My TV broke. so i got rid of it, and didn't get a new one Now i do so much more planted a tree the other day in an lonely space, read lots more books and go out more. TRY IT! i recommenned it 100% 09 November 2008, 18:18show of our own without tv
Last evening due to a storm, my husband and I turned off the TV. We found ourselves just talking and watching the lightening storm. I don't recommend this in really bad weather, but we kept waiting for the lightening to see what kind of pattern or noise the thunder would make! Sounds corny, but it passed the time without tv. It was our own entertainment. Mother nature gave us a show of our own :) 05 August 2008, 20:37
Send your telly on holiday
We love watching TV in our house. So much so that we find it difficult to think of other things to do. So every summer when the weather improves or at least for the school holidays we turn the telly off and send it on holiday. I have never read so many books and the kids have to think of other things to occupy themselves. 30 July 2008, 09:58
read what it says
Re Anoel's comment that s/he loves watching TV: this action says "try watching less TV", NOT "turn off your TV forever". The point is doing stuff in moderation, so instead of vegging out in front of the telly all the time, do something else for entertainment every so often. Just like my doctor's told me to cut down on cheese because of the high fat/cholesterol content, but as I absolutely LOVE cheese there's no way I'm going to give it up completely, so I'm just making an effort to eat a bit less. 12 July 2008, 02:49
More TV!
I love TV and would rather die before doing this. I think it's ridiculous that people are always saying turn off your TV. No, the important thing is only watch TV that you enjoy and that brings you happiness or enhances your life such as more knowledge or promoting creativity. I watch a lot of TV and I'm very proud of it. In the end it's about moderation and doing what you love. 10 July 2008, 14:16
I've watched less!
2 weeks ago I stopped watching tv just for the sake of it. I also stopped surfing the net, putting on my stereo all the time, playing play station and reading!!! I am now integrating them all back in sensibly and slowly. I've realised I don't need the music on as I miss the birds singing. My husband and I have had some lovely evenings just chatting in candlelight. We play board games with our boys. I actualyy get up and do jobs as I don't feel so tired. It's amasing!!! 28 April 2008, 16:47
I am pretty good at ditching the TV in the day (mainly cause I have so much coursework to do) But in the evenings I am lost. I don't know what else to do except to sit down with the family and watch some stupid programme about moving houses or Antiques Roadshow. I often have little thoughts and wander off to go and flick through soem book or laugh at some photos but soon get my mum poking her head round the door to ask why I'm ignoring everyone by wnadering off to do these things. So i invite her in to laugh at the pictures with me but she gets bored and goes back to the god damn television. Give me strength.... 27 April 2008, 09:59
my flatmate
it's obvious innit? good telly is just that, good telly. that's why nicole is addicted to six feet under and grey's anatomy. good telly wakes up your mind, piques your curiosity and makes you laugh. bad telly makes you feel smug and slightly superior and turns you off. it's all about what you chose to watch.
i could chose to read mills 'n boons or i could get stuck into tolstoy. would those killjoys at tv turnoff week have us ban libraries next, because there's too much mind-mulching pulp in them? credit us with having our own tv antennae rather than telling us how to live our lives. and nicole pet? don't give it another thought. 17 April 2008, 11:35
Possibly addicted?
I don't watch TV. Haven't done in years. Yet in the last few weeks, I have rediscoverd how addictive American series are as I find myself rushing home to curl up on the sofa and watch 5 episodes in a row of Grey's Anatomy, Lost and Desperate Housewives. It is all quite confusing! Must get out tonight and not get sucked in! 16 April 2008, 12:31
Box free
It’s been years since I’ve had a telly. We’ve got a turntable where our set used to be but the licensing people are still baffled when they barge their way in. (‘Go on, where is it? We know you’ve got one. Everyone’s got one’) I should tell them that actually I prefer the long baths and having friends around for dinner. That if I had a telly I would never have learned to play the guitar. And it’s a safe bet our house wouldn’t dance to Galliano quite so late at night, quite so vigorously, quite so often. I still watch TV, I love nothing better than a sardonic House episode. It’s just intentional viewing now, at mates, not the kind of languid lazy grazing at home that finds you loosing enthusiasm, the plot and entire evenings.

And lovin' it! 14 February 2008, 19:52
