Action updated!
The average phone weighs 0.1kg
There are 75 million mobiles in the UK alone. That's a hell of a lot of annoying ring tones, and worse, it equates to 1500 tonnes of landfill. The same as burying a World War 2 destroyer. And despite the strong desire to grab the bloke on the train's Flip Up 2200 and chuck it in the nearest bin, resist. Bins are not the place for phones. Various schemes including Fonebak and Envirofone gives an old handset a second life.

A friend told me about Mazuma (recommended on here by someone else earlier) a couple of months ago. Registered easily, got quotes and they sent bags the next day. Sent money very quickly too. Got rid of two Nokias I'd had hanging around for ages, and made almost £100. Was impressed with the speed and the service. Happy to get any money for them, and thought this a decent price for stuff that was just hanging about. 27 November 2010, 12:22reycle

Our school has bins where students and their families can easily bring in their cell phones, printer cartridges, etc. for recycling.
